- Subject: Xwindemo crashes-why?
-
- I have the xwindemo.exe installed, and as far as I can tell,
- everything is configured properly. When I log in to a machine here
- using XDMCP, most of the time I get our log in shell and all
- the windows that pop up according to my .xsession. I don't think
- I've ever been able to log out though--it crashes before I can get
- to it. I'm not putting it up to too much of a load. Even with one
- window it usually crashes. I'm just wondering if anyone has
- experianced such problems and resolved them, so I can do the same.
- Here's my setup:
-
-
- 386DX/33
- 4 Megs
- 80 Meg HD
- Practical Peripherals 14.4 Internal
- Windows v3.1
- Winsock beta 5 over a ppp connection
-
- Any help is GREATLY appreciated. A friend of mine is also stuck in
- the same situtaion, and the only difference bewteen us is that he has
- a 483DX/33.
-
- Thanks much,
-
- Pete

-
- The official site for the *shareware* Trumpet Winsock is
- ftp.utas.edu.au (131.217.1.20)
- /pc/trumpet/winsock/twsk10a.zip (120,569 bytes)
-
- I have verified that it is virus-free and unzips properly with
- PKUNZIP 2.04G (the most recent version).
-
- With Peter's permission, I have am archiving the Trumpet Winsock
- at biochemistry.bioc.cwru.edu (129.22.152.44) as /pub/trumpwsk/twsk10a.zip
-
- No doubt Peter will be posting an official release notice to this and
- other relevant groups in the near future.

- Subject: winsock and SLIP configuration
-
- I have just downloaded the shareware trumpet winsock program and am
- attempting to get it running through a dialup SLIP connection to our SLIP
- server at the U. of Minnesota. I have found the appropriate IP addresses
- for the gateway and nameserver (at least I'm pretty sure), but I'm
- wondering what my IP address is. Does that refer to the IP address of the
- machine that I login to when I first dialup? e.g. I login to my account
- like this: wilso036@maroon.tc.umn.edu
- Should IP address in the .ini file refer to this computer? That's how I
- have it set now, but I'm unable to ping another machine once SLIP is
- enabled.
-
- After double-clicking Pingw, I type "gold.tc.umn.edu" at the "host:" prompt
- and wait. Nothing happens for several minutes until "trying 0.0.0.0"
- appears in the window. Nothing happens after that at all and I end up
- closing the application after several more minutes. When I activate the
- TCPman window the message is:
-
- Task 256F did not call WSACleanup
-
- Does anyone have any suggestions? After I login, I press <ESC> to get the
- SLIP ENABLED message, so I'm pretty sure that the connection is
- established. Any help will be appreciated.
-
- Slowly SLIPping away,
- Tim

- Subject: FTP and WinQVT/Net v3.9 Problem.
-
-
- Hi. I have successfully installed winsock and have Win QVT/Net v3.9 running.
- I am able to telnet to on campus and ftp to locations within my campus.
- However, the FTP feature in the WinQVT console allows me only to ftp to
- campus locations. Everything I try to go outside campus (i.e. cica) I get
- not connection. I can only ftp from within the telenet log on session.
- Have anyone else experienced this problem. Does anyone know what is
- going on? The consultants here do not seem to know.
-
-
- Also, if I tell someone outside my campus my IP address, can he/she ftp to
- my pc? I thought this was possible but only people in campus have been able to
- ftp successfully.
-
- Thanks
-
- -F.
